About Me

Editor. VIdeographer. Storyteller.

My journey into becoming an editor started almost by accident. My freshman year of college I went to my advisor with a problem. I no longer knew what I wanted to do. After a long talk he suggested I go into journalism, which was intriguing, until it wasn't. His next suggestion was that I take an introductory film class. I skeptically accepted, and on the first day of class, I immediately fell in love.

My professor went into the nuances of editing, how it is the hidden art form. He explained that the goal of the editor is to make things feel so natural and smooth that their work goes unnoticed by the audience. This was an incredible revelation to me, and I never watched any digital content the same again.

That same year I got my hands on Adobe Premiere Pro to edit a short film some of my classmates had made. I was wary as it was my first time editing, but I quickly became enthralled with the program and fell more in love with the art form, as I realized that at my fingertips was the power to not only tell the story the way we wanted it to be told, but by making small changes, and paying attention to the small details, I could monumentally enhance the viewers experience of the product, whether they knew it or not.

I then went into visual effects, where I learned how to use Adobe After Effects and Foundry's Nuke. I learned so much about detail refinement and further honed my craft to become a better overall editor.

Finally, I was at the level where I was able to take upper division editing classes. In those classes I was trained in Avid Media Composer, and learned professional studio house post production workflows. I was taught how to take the footage from the set, ingest it and organize it, how to conform formats from different cameras, and how to document all that I had done to keep the process organized. I went through this process multiple times with different shorts, and for each I made a rough, fine, and final cut, complete with sound design and color correction. I also learned the pipeline of transferring projects to different programs, such as taking an AAF file from your Avid project and getting it into Davinci resolve, conforming the footage, and re-linking it to the RAW files to get the original quality for better color grading.

Now that I have graduated, I am extremely eager to begin using all of these skills that I've honed over the last 4 years. I am however even more eager to continue learning through new experiences as I go. One thing I've learned about post production - Every set/project has problems. As an editor, my job is to solve them, and I love it.
